Philosophy of the Pseudo Absolute
Philosophy of the Pseudo Absolute
by Tatiana Velitchkov © 2009
Philosophy refers to the study of general problems mostly concerning matters such as existence, truth, knowledge etc. Pseudo is used to signify that something is false, fraudulent or it is not whatever it is pretending to be, and Absolute refers to a concept of philosophy. Thus the Philosophy of Pseudo Absolute describes any idea or system that is taken to be a philosophy but it significantly fails to meet scholarly standards of philosophy. So in simple terms it is something which is pretending to be a philosophy.
A popular scholar called Nicholas Rescher referred Philosophy of Pseudo absolute as deliberations that masquerade as philosophical but which in fact are found to be inept, incompetent, and deficient of intellectual seriousness and they reflect on an insufficient commitment to the pursuit of truth. This has been the basic definition of pseudo philosophy that is commonly used in academic rounds.
Over a period of time pseudo philosophy has been found in academics or some scholars have been accused of pseudo philosophy. These pseudo philosophies have brought forward by fellow scholars while trying to justify each others work. Pseudo philosophy was quoted in academia in works by:
Hegel
Hegel is a scholar who was born in Germany and his colleagues and he came up with philosophies such as those for ethical life, importance of history. Hegel and his colleagues developed a concept of mind or spirit that later integrated and united. His philosophy was said to be a pseudo philosophy by Arthur Schopenhauer. He said that Hegel and his colleagues’ deliberately sound impressive but are without truth. The works sound impressive but they contain no verifiable content Arthur said of Hegel’s works. Despite this Hegel is still considered as an influential writer in world history.
Postmodernism
Accusations of pseudo philosophy have also been made against postmodernist Martin Heidegger. Richard Dawkins who is a biologist claims that modernists are generally intellectual con artist or tricksters who come up with weak ideas with difficult to understand wordings. In this claims he also included other modernist like Jacques Derrida, Jean Baudrillard, Julia Kristeva, Jacques Lacan, Jean-Francois Lyotard, Gilles Deleuze and Jean Luc Nancy. Another scholar who has accused these philosophers is Alan Sokal who said that the philosophers used scientific concepts but they lacked in rigor. Claims of pseudo philosophy have gone to as far as some scholar protesting to Cambridge University for awarding Jacques Derrida an Honorary degree; they claimed that his work did not meet the accepted standards of clarity.

Hegel may have failed at addressing important notions (and his style may indeed have been one of obfuscation, which is to be expected of a man with his philosophical lineage), and modernists may indeed be pseudophilosophers, but Schopenhauer, and especially Dawkins, is hardly a man worthy enough to slap that label on anybody besides himself. Dawkins shows such an ignorance of philosophy in his public yammerings and books that it seems utterly laughable that he could accuse anyone else of philosophical flimsiness. He seems less interested in truth, and more interested in pinning down those he finds disagreeable with the clever use of sophistic arguments which dazzle his naive and ignorant audience. If he is not consciously aware of his real motives, then it is only because he has managed to either blind himself to them, or because he is counting on the general public’s tacit belief that scientists are infallible and that the physical sciences are the only sources of knowledge.

Thank you for your comment Bob, and I think this might be the case indeed: “…or because he is counting on the general public’s tacit belief that scientists are infallible and that the physical sciences are the only sources of knowledge.”

Oooh…classic ad hominem. Dat’s some tight philosophy!

But maybe you could a little more in the way of content so people could connect with it better. Youve got an awful lot of text for only having 1 or 2 pictures. Maybe you could space it out better?

This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like ‘Mixview’ that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you’re listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of “neighbors” will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune “Social” is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.

You completed certain good points there. I did a search on the issue and found nearly all persons will have the same opinion with your blog.
July 20th, 2011 at 2:45 pm
The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.

WARNING THIS MESSAGE IS FOR THE WEBMASTER : if you are using clickbank then you really need this pluggin its free thank me later

The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.

Getting health right is not always about all that though is it? Sometimes I find it’s more of a state of mind than anything else, where you need to be in total control of what you are trying to achieve. That probably sounds a bit voodoo, but you know what I mean.
August 17th, 2011 at 2:13 am
Most of the human race is just not disciplined enough to make most things work. It’s not just with health-related issues either. However, with health it tends to matter more. So how do you overcome the hurdles and the procrastination?
August 17th, 2011 at 2:42 am
How do you keep disciplined and in control though? Isn’t this what it’s all about at the end of the day?

Thanks for helping me to attain new tips about pc’s. I also hold the belief that certain of the best ways to help keep your mobile computer in perfect condition has been a hard plastic case, or shell, that suits over the top of one’s computer. These kind of protective gear are generally model specific since they are manufactured to fit perfectly over the natural casing. You can buy these directly from the vendor, or through third party places if they are for your mobile computer, however only a few laptop could have a cover on the market. Again, thanks for your recommendations.
