   Philosophy is natural. We wonder about questions that have no certain answers: Do we have free will? What happens after death? What is the best way to live? Why be moral? etc. etc. etc.

   People care about these things – that’s the place it has “in this modern era”: within people. Therefore, philosophy will continue.

   In this modern era we are finally getting it that the wisest councellor comes from within, that you can rely on the signals your Inner Being is giving you via your feelings.

   So, the best philosophers in this modern era – I wouldn’t even call them philosophers anymore, because these are simply people who have learned how everyone can reach for their highest potential, and they are those who best explain how to utilize this wise inner councellor – there’s no wiser councellor anywhere outside of you – because you cannot rely on anyone else like you can rely on your feelings.

   We are no longer in the Modern Era, roughly from Rene Descartes to Imanuel Kant it was the Modern Era. We are now in the Neo-Post Modern era. One of the basic services done by philosophers is to help people ask and answer questions.

    Everyone thinks, therefore everyone is a philosopher on some level. Put it this way: We all think, therefore we all am. Suck it, Descartes!

    Do we need a bunch of people who walk around like Socrates did and literally philosophize (word? no? whatever) right at you? No, we don’t.

    I think a lot of the people at my work have given me better advice than any philosopher I’ve ever read. One of my bosses, for example, taught me about the myth of “standards” and desiring a perfect woman: “She doesn’t have to be an drop-dead gorgeous, she just has to know how to work it. We give points for effort.”

    Amen.

    “Philosophy” means “love of wisdom”. This world definitely needs lovers of wisdom.

    Wittgenstein noted that philosophy was useful for evaluating science and premises, and proved that vis a vis his critique which exploded the Vienna Circle’s myth of rational premise. Goedel’s work showed no mildly complex system is totally consistently provable within itself.

    Try looking at Aivanhov’s “A Philosophy of Universality,” Mark Prophet’s “Climb the Highest Mountain,” Jonathan Murro’s “The Path of Virtue,” and Tiller’s “Psychoenergetic Science” http://www.tiller.org and http://www.divinecosmos.com for some relevant modern thought and information.

    The purpose of philosophy, through its second science of epistemology, is to find rationality in our thinking. We need rational philosophers, not philosophers who tell us we can know nothing; or that all philosophies are equal; or that we are dust in the wind.
    In order not to be “ivory tower,” philosophers’ jobs are to speak to current metaphysics, ethics, politics, science, and anything which impacts our methods of thinking and our means of finding answers. Metaphysics cannot answer questions of science, for example; but it can proclaim which science is bunk based on epistemological and metaphysical principles.
    Medical ethics boards, legal ethics boards, etc are all made of philosophers, since Ethics is the 3rd science of philosophy.

    An emphatic YES! Especially in these times we all need a good dose of wisdom and enlightenment. There is too much dogma and belief in mythology in an era when we should be more sophisticated that to adhere to the creeds of ancient texts.
