how have ancient greek philosophers impacted modern astronomy?

Best answer:

Answer by good4amber
The Greeks discovered that the earth was a sphere by several methods and the philosopher Eratosthenes measured the circumference of the earth to within about 300 kilometers of today’s generally accepted value. In about 200 BC Aristarchus first stated that the earth revolves around the sun but most philosophers argued that everything revolves around earth.

wow well this has been comming to us and no one has even done a thing. remember the people who we became independent from?? well aparently most of us don’t, and they gave them the power back, sounds intereting how now after 300 years we start realizing that the Queen still controls us and this spychip is the way they can have total control they will get rid of actual money (like they ahven’t already) and make all the money digital and they will make the chip our identity without it we do not exist and the trouble makers are easier to get rid of and disapear. so who is willing to be free? all i got to say is

Remember Remember the 5th of november

please remember the christian bible was a book for rebullution not a book of religion where they did warn us about this control of powers…
i am not religious but a free thinker and my kind will be extinct or at least persecuted again for free thinking in the near future. i sure know that with this chip people say that counterfeiting is close to impossible i say yes it is but corruption is the result and hey did someone say Hitler is in the house?

Ideas about Kant?

Tuesday, December 27th, 2011

Question by James C: Ideas about Kant?
I need to write a term paper that deals with Kant’s moral theory in some way.

I understand Kant just fine, but what I need are ideas for what to write about– it’s ten pages long. Should I compare Kant’s ethics to the ethics of another early modern philosopher, like Hume or Spinoza?

Should I compare Kantian ethics to other aspects of his philosophy?

I’m no good at coming up with topics for philosophy papers.

Best answer:

Answer by Glen B
Use some aspect of Kant which has proven to be controversial in philosophy (or for yourself) and has been challenged by subsequent philosopers.

I remember reading something for a college course, and I’m pretty sure it was Black Elk Speaks. It is about Black Elk and his experiences more so than a general overview of all tribes.

I found it on Amazon. Read the description and see if it fit what you’re looking for.

What do You Know about Spiritual Science?

Monday, October 24th, 2011

Spiritual science is a field of science which may attract you. If you are going to learn about this, you are going to manage the process in which the cognition of the spirit is gained from the systematic studies of what our senses perceive. It has no doctrine or scripture and belief system but it takes the best that each of the mentioned things has to offer.

Spiritual science, including the study of people’s words, thoughts, deeds and the meditation practice as well, is an interesting field. We can see it, in a simple way, as a philosophical manner of living. However, it is actually much disciplined.

Today, many people are attracted by this particular science. The reason is due to the open-ended thought system of the study, which endlessly evolves as the mankind endlessly develops. These extended teachings are made from the wisdom which represents human knowledge. Furthermore, this science teaches us that everyone is his or her own divine being.

It makes everyone of us more responsible for our own thoughts, deeds and words. Our success, harmony and peace of mind are characterized by how well they contact the Divine Being. The objective of this science is to encourage us to think about and believe in things which they do not think about and believe in.

Science teaches us that the universal truths, as a supernatural expression, are brought out to every religion in this world. Every religion in this world is recognized in this science with their own value. However, it does not tell us there is a specific path to take for spirit to be enlightened.

It instead explains that there are one or some paths, however every of them leads us to the same destination, and God-realization as well as self-realization will be reached at the end. Those people who have interests in this science have the genuine anxiety and sincerity over studying the art of real conscious living.

It teaches us that the thoughts of us towards the nature of the universe can determine what our relationship with the universe will be. In addition, humans have capability of expressing their potential if they can recognize themselves as the creations as well as the co-creators. Seven branches of philosophy are logic, metaphysics, psychology, ethics, esthetics, epistemology and theology.

Those engaging in the study and practice of spiritual science can develop selflessness in life. They share and teach others God’s works and obtain better lives.

The Hindu and Buddhist traditions had already said all about what the modern philosophers tried to say?

Friday, June 17th, 2011

Question by Dave: The Hindu and Buddhist traditions had already said all about what the modern philosophers tried to say?
Philosophers like Descartes, Plato, Socrates, Kant and so on came after the Hindu and Vedic traditions and these guys just involuntarily plagiarised philosophies that are said in Hinduism about the nature of reality but these modern philosophers get all the credit for what was said in the Vedas and Upanishads. Why is that?

Best answer:

Answer by Grip Tail
arent hindu and buddhist still two of the biggest religions in the world? i think they are getting their credit

An interesting discussion between two great philosophers of the latter half of the 20th century, exploring topics such as truth, meaning and reference. I apologize for the audio sync. It was a problem with the original file (not that it matters much, the video is simply two old men talking). Richard Rorty (1931-2007) developed a distinctive and controversial brand of pragmatism that expressed itself along two main axes. One is negative—a critical diagnosis of what Rorty takes to be defining projects of modern philosophy. The other is positive—an attempt to show what intellectual culture might look like, once we free ourselves from the governing metaphors of mind and knowledge in which the traditional problems of epistemology and metaphysics (and indeed, in Rorty’s view, the self-conception of modern philosophy) are rooted. plato.stanford.edu en.wikipedia.org Donald Davidson (1917-2003) was one of the most important philosophers of the latter half of the twentieth century. His ideas, presented in a series of essays from the 1960′s onwards, have been influential across a range of areas from semantic theory through to epistemology and ethics. Davidson’s work exhibits a breadth of approach, as well as a unitary and systematic character, which is unusual within twentieth century analytic philosophy. plato.stanford.edu en.wikipedia.org
