Question by sephiroth962: Don’t know what to do with the future of this story? Help? Should it be a screenplay, book, tv show? ?
This story has been like 2 years in the making up till now i’m actually gathering info. to develop the story it is the story of a kid named “AJ” (pronouced age idk if thats how you would pronounce it) he has a twin sister, a brother and a family friend as Aj grows up to his late 14 yrs of age he begins to question certain things eventually becoming a philosopher i’ll give him experiences that i myself have experienced as well as all my philosophical views, high school his wisdom increases slowly Aj begins to put the pharse “anything is possible” to the test what does Aj want to be u ask he’ll be emperor of this world. he knows that his task will not be easy and that the world can’t be a perfect place of harmony but he will try his best to keep the world stable enough to bring a sense of harmony, little does he know that he has powers. I wanna make this story as possible as the real world. setting will be our modern world, because this is a huge project of course they will be extra characters involved other than the 4 i just mentioned. i have gathered songs that helped me develop scenes for the story, i also manged to find a way on Microsoft Word to play audio clips of the characters, with music in the background, sound effects basically my own audiobook …the story will have twists loops… mmm thats i all its midnight so sry if i didn’t make certain things clear just e-mail me to clear things up b4 u comment and i’ll leave you with a quote from Aj
“power can build or destroy, love can make u or break u, shit happens for a reason or not at all, ppl change or not at all, some understand some don’t, (tsk) in my opinion everything is balanced nothing will outweigh the other and if so they try to outweigh one another 4 eternity” -Aj

Story idea and work on it seems interesting.
Can only think of one suggestion: put an ‘e’ after Aj (or Aaj?) unless you plan to write a ‘sounds-like’ after the first mention of the name.
As for what this ends out to be ‘real time’ that depends on how you ultimately see the finished product.
Most work shows itself at least by then to be screenplay, novel or TV show; sometimes all three though it can’t be marketed as all three at once.

Once you complete all revisions, it would be best to get an agent in one or all fields (some know all of them). Getting an agent, if you have yet to publish anything, will take time. Suggest you read the first section of the current issue of The Writer’s Market; study all aspects of it and you’ll see what is involved with any type of publication in any field.

If you don’t want to buy the book, you can copy relevant pages (quite a few) at a public library and/or study it there and make notes of what you need to know. The book is also online with all recent updates, but costs (very inexpensive) $ 3.99 a month to see it all. Take a look:

What book am I thinking of?

Thursday, December 22nd, 2011

Question by johnjohnjohnjohn129: What book am I thinking of?
Today I just saw a book that a buddy at work had…I can’t remember the name of it. He said the author was a modern philosopher. I want to say his first name was Rob, but I’m not sure.

My buddy said the book was about how eventually humans would be able to live forever, and about how technology would eventually e smarter than us…

It sounded interesting so I wanted to check it out. I wont see this guy for another week. Does anyone know what it is?

I can’t come up witha “Rob” for you. But the book sounds ike it could be by Eric Drexler (ENGINES OF CREATION or UNBOUNDING THE FUTURE).

The movement of which Drexler is a part is called transhumanism.

I remember reading something for a college course, and I’m pretty sure it was Black Elk Speaks. It is about Black Elk and his experiences more so than a general overview of all tribes.

I found it on Amazon. Read the description and see if it fit what you’re looking for.

Is there a good book which describes the evolution of religion/philosophy/thought throughout history?

Question by Bill: Is there a good book which describes the evolution of religion/philosophy/thought throughout history?
From as early as Mesopotamia to the present age. I am looking for something uniformly organized and detailed.

Some 100-level (introductory) courses in departments like Modern Languages or Comparative Literature look at the history of western civilizations through a study of myths, birth of religions and development of major philosophical schools/ideas. Most of such courses and books touch upon, though briefly so, other civilizations and regions as well, usually to provide a background on their influence on Greek culture. Best is to google for their course readings and check out amazon for the reviews of those books.

I would also suggest checking Etienne Gilson’s classic “God and Philosophy” though it is more of a philosophy book than history, and starts with the Greeks.

Question by Aonghas Shrugged: Reviews of Hannam’s book: God’s Philosophers: How the Medieval World Laid the Foundations of Modern Science?
Something tells me that even without having read it, many of you will be “so knowledgeable” of Hannam’s book. (Ignorance of a topic on R&S has never been an obstacle to many responses.)

What is an easy to read and excellent book about not searching for happiness through religion, philosophy?

What’s the best up to date book on the philosophy of religion?

Sunday, July 4th, 2010

I want something that’s unbiased and presents both sides of the argument. One that presents the most arguments and criticisms and covers all areas, like arguments for and against the existence of god and the religious belief system and stuff like that. I read Peter Vardy’s ‘The Thinkers Guide to God’ and couldn’t help thinking it was a little bias towards religion.

Yes, I’m aware I already asked this on the Religion and Spirituality section but I didn’t get any helpful answers and I hope I will get it here. After all, it is to do with philosophy.
