If God truly doesn’t exist……?
Tuesday, January 17th, 2012Question by : If God truly doesn’t exist……?
….I feel way more responsible for my actions.
We are often told to pray if we want something in life- “to place our concerns in God’s hands” At this point in my life I feel disconnected from any religion on this earth. After taking a Word Religions class I was left wondering which religion is the right one? Of course those who believe in a certain religion would say the one they believe in is the right one, but everyone is different. The concepts of Heaven and the Underworld I find to be common in many religions. Also similar are the stances on romantic relationships- e.g. adultery is considered wrong worldwide. For me, to simply “place something in God’s hands” is to expect some supernatural force to help me in getting what I want. What if I waited for years and didn’t receive it?
I feel as though by not believing I’ve become even more assertive in getting the things that I want, and in achieving the goals I’ve set in life. I am not one of the others who cry in misery “Why did God not answer my prayer?” I blame myself if things didn’t go the way that I wanted it to, also knowing that in life I cannot have all the things I want. It is the things that one needs to survive that are the most important.
I take advice from various ancient philosophers, modern thinkers, and from elders who have lived a longer life then my eighteen years of existence on how to live the best life I could live. I feel as though by believing in one religion I would have placed myself in a box. By not having a strong connection to any one religion I’ve become more open-minded and less opinionated of other cultures and beliefs.
But then again that’s just me…….
