Why do the Americans give the French no credit for the War of Independence?
Friday, May 28th, 2010The French were crucial to the victory of George Washington and the Americans against the British, lending vital military aid. The US constitution is based on the writings of French philosophers, and the French erected the Statue of Liberty. How come, despite this, the French are given no credit for anything by the average American, who only takes into account their surrender against the Germans, considering them cowards, and otherwise knowing next to little about France? Is this so easily forgotten? Arguably, without the French, the USA would not exist.
