German performance artist Otmar Wagner sings excerpts of two essays by Donna Haraway. This ‘song’ is part of some of his concert-performances since 2004, as well as one example for Wagners concept of ‘territories, that have to be sung’. Karl Marx said: “The philosophers have interpreted the world in various ways; the point is to change it.” Otmar Wagner says: “The philosophers have been interpreted in various ways; the point is to sing them.”

snow in saarbrücken saarland germany deutschland. it is, soon to be was, february first 2008 of the fellow we call lord jesus christ. that is mockery, of course because he put down his title of lord to try to be a teacher like many other philosophers. and the snow is falling on a friday night and many saarbrücken dwellers are on their way home. there were some other inhabitants of saarbrücken walking down at the river just because it was snowing. i saw a couple young women taking a picture of a 6 inch snow man they had built. and some guy smiled at me and said hi. they do that in the saarland. most people from somewhere else don’t know about people from the saarland. they are a mix of german and french. saarland was once french after it had been german. then it was independent. then hitler gave them a nice theater for electing to join germany again. germany has a better social system. in fact, germany has one of the best social systems on this planet. most people think germany is full of weird german type people. german people ain’t any weirder than anywhere else. maybe even less weird than many places. and saarbrücken is a nice place to live because there are many excellent people living here. many people have come here with intentions not to stay and have never got around to leaving again. i am one of them. when i find a better place, i will leave. but right now, i ain’t looking on account i plan to stay a while longer. as long as they’ll have me. This is the first in a series of videos based on interviews with Professor Mario Bunge that took place in Montreal in early February 2011. Each clip covers a set of general themes from his vast oeuvre in the philosophy of science. Bunge’s achievement is unique: he provides a systematic and comprehensive philosophy that is conversant with all the contemporary sciences from physics to the social sciences and deals with the entire range of fundamental problems in ontology, epistemology, semantics, ethics, and logic. Those who have studied some of his work either consider him an intellectual terrorist to be feared or a philosophical freedom fighter who sheds bright light on the fundamental questions of scientific knowledge. He takes no prisoners. He exposes obscurantists, names charlatans, and levels scathing criticisms at the scholasticism of academics content to study each other’s works rather than engage with reality. There is no one who comes even close to matching what Bunge has managed to do in a long life of scholarship. Perhaps this is why his work is not much more widely celebrated. Maybe the fact that he has neither a British nor American accent or habitus plays a role – even a French or German accent might have helped in the shallow real world of twentieth and twenty-first century philosophers. Lest this conjures up an image of a virtual unknown: Bunge ranks 112th in the new Science Hall of Fame, which measures the frequency with which the full names of scientists …
www.myspace.com We are Ardulph Ardebahr Wald, two introverted german musicians and philosophers. The band exists since early 1999 when we´ve met at a mental home. For us our music is a document of our friendship and in the end it describes and preserves the path that we´ve walked together until now. The music intensifies the emotions of a melancholically feeling being – our emotions: ETERNITY , TREMENDOUSNESS , CONFUSION , LONELINESS and after all DEATH! “… a world in which everything seems to be vulnerable and everything shines with moonlike darkbrightness and the beams of melancholy have got faces, the sad faces of horses…” We play and produce our music by and for ourselves, though we invite anybody who feels the same way to join our community… Video Rating: 5 / 5
Few twentieth-century thinkers have proven as influential as Walter Benjamin, the German-Jewish philosopher and cultural and literary critic. Richard Wolin's book remains among the clearest and most insightful introductions to Benjamin's writings, offering a philosophically rich exposition of his complex relationship to Adorno, Brecht, Jewish Messianism, and Western Marxism. Wolin provides nuanced interpretations of Benjamin's widely studied writings on Baudelaire, historiography, and art in the

oregonstate.edu Is God the greatest fact or the greatest illusion? Of all the questions posed by philosophy this is surely the most important. Has scientific knowledge made belief in God unnecessary and outdated? Is the universe all there is and God merely a human invention and a fantasy? Or is there an uncreated being, who is absolute, perfect, eternal, and personal that we call God? If there is no God man can free himself from an illusion that no longer casts its transcendental spell. But if God exists humans can find meaning and purpose in life and a secure foundation for ethical behavior. These issues will be addressed by two distinguished philosophers who will offer widely differing points of view. William Lane Craig is Research Professor of Philosophy at Biola University in La Mirada, California. He is known for his contributions to the philosophy of religion, philosophical theology, and historical Jesus studies. He holds a Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Birmingham in the UK, where he studied under the British philosopher John Hick; and a doctorate in theology from the University of Munich, where he studied under the German theologian Wolfhart Pannenberg. He has authored or edited more than 30 books and has engaged many prominent academic atheists in public dialogue and debate. For more information see his web site www.reasonablefaith.org. Victor J. Why do people visit places where other people were born, lived, fought, or died? What does it mean to be a tourist? There was no time to waste on October 3rd, 2008, the 18th anniversary of the German reunification. This journey along the German autobahn A 38, from East to West, from Leipzig to Göttingen, could only take one day. 21 sleepless hours, to be precise. This is not a movie. This is a wild 23-minutes crossover combining elements of documentary, mockumentary, travel clip, freestyle, different subcultures, YouTube chic, and a load of explicit or obscure allusions to German and Western culture. Thus it follows a tangential structure. Most of the things are just mentioned or shown briefly, it is more like an index to actual contents. Among others, Gustav II Adolf, Nietzsche, Goethe, Cortázar, Pushkin, and infamous German field marshal von Hindenburg are referenced. There is also room for phantasmagoric approaches, like an excessive dialogue about the origin of ABCs hit series Lost. A visit to the worlds biggest rose collection with more than 8300 breeds represents historys vulgar romanticism. But also the battlegrounds of the great European wars are passed by, as are poets and philosophers birthplaces, and obscenely large national monuments. Wikipedia is quoted briefly to exemplify the triumph of in-situ knowledge; Creative Commons music by Revolution Void adds some style, not to forget the voice-over hommage à Werner Herzog.
