I need some help with Alchemy? Puffers, spiritual, etc.?

Wednesday, April 4th, 2012

Question by Rachel_not: I need some help with Alchemy? Puffers, spiritual, etc.?
I’m doing a report on Alchemy, and have a couple questions

-How did modern Alchemy come from the Puffers?
-Is the Philosophers stone really a stone, or an idea that could be of any substance?
- In general, and in a way said as simple as possible, can you explain spiritual alchemy to me?
Thank you so much, it is VERY confusing!

See how two of the world’s most fruitful traditions for understanding the nature of reality and promoting human well-being modern science and Buddhism – come together. Lama Ole Nydhal provides an insight about the revolution which is taking place through modern physics, as well as philosophy. He shows how Buddhism, as a religion of experience, can extend our knowledge and integrates the diverse dimensions of our world. Modern physics and life sciences have developed enormously in the last years. The natural meeting ground between science and Buddhism is thus at one of the most active research frontiers today; bridging the gap between external and internal descriptions. About the author: Lama Ole Nydahl is a Buddhist teacher with over ten thousand students around the world. For more than thirty years his life has been dedicated to conveying Buddhist teachings in the west. He is always on the road, giving lectures, holding meditation courses and taking care of Buddhist centers the world over. He teaches the Karma Kagyu tradition of Tibetan Buddhism under the guidance of the 17th Karmapa Thaye Dorje. Lama Ole was married for 35 years and together with his late wife Hannah created that which most of us only dream about: a fulfilled, permanently joyful life. Can someone please help me with Hinduism questions?

Saturday, March 24th, 2012

Question by heygirlhey: Can someone please help me with Hinduism questions?
I read an article on Hinduism and I am very confused. You can read the same article if you google “‘a modern Hindu philosopher’s understanding of caste”.

1. In what ways does Radhakrishnan defend the caste system?

2. What are his criticisms of Western societies’s class system (cold? competitive? raises false hopes?)

3.How does Radhakrishnan justify the use of caste to describe ‘vocation as service”? (meaning assigned jobs in life)

4. What do you think about Radhakrishnan’s argument that ‘happily the world is so arranged that each man’s good turns out to be the good of others”? (meaning that each man should happily fulfill his assigned job in life (brick layer, garbage collector, lawyer, etc) and that that job will benefit all of society.) Do you agree or disagree? Defend your argument

5. What do you think about his ideas about democracy, pay scales for certain jobs, and his opinion that “Democracy is so interpreted as to justify not only the very legitimate aspiration to bring about a more equitable distribution of wealth, but also the increasing tendency for a levelling down of all talent. This is not possible.”

6. What are your thoughts about his statement that ” Mechanical (factory) work should be economically more paying than even that of the artist of the statesman. For in the latter case, work is its own reward.”

can you please help me understand these questions?

please help me! this is mathematical modelling problems..?

Friday, January 20th, 2012

Question by ALFRED J: please help me! this is mathematical modelling problems..?
The modern philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau formulated a simple model of population growth for 18th-century England based on the following assumptions:
The birthrate in London is less than that in rural England.
The death rate in London is greater than that in rural England.
As England industrializes, more and more people migrate from the countryside to London.
Rousseau then reasoned that because London’s birthrate was lower and its death rate higher, and rural people tended to migrate there, the population of England would eventually decline to zero. Criticize Rousseau’s conclusion.

Best answer:

Answer by patrick m
the critisism is the lack of expected life span, and boundry values (not everyone can move, and the population rate change is probably dependant on the current population -like rabbits and wolves living in proximity – more rabbits->more wolves->less rabbits->less wolves) – these can be modeled e^rt – and simultaneous difference equations……

hope this provided a little insight -

Philosophy is a subject that covers virtually everything, including the deeper questions of why we’re here, the meaning of life, or the existence of God. You can just as easily present a philosophy of why chocolate is good for your soul (or not) or even how to best play and win a game. Philosophies do not need to be profound, they just need to be based on logic, reason, and as good an understanding of the subject as you can achieve. Pick any subject that interests you, that isn’t too hard to research, that holds personal meaning for you, and of course has a meaning for Jewish people as a whole. How about the meaning and importance of ritual in an increasingly secular age, particularly in America where ritual is no longer woven into daily life as it was in more traditional times. What is your philosophy of why ritual is still important? Does it pay the bills, put food on the table or provide for the education of your children? If not, what is the practical value? Is there a practical value or is it a comforting waste of time? I say it is more valuable and meaningful, but I could be wrong.

Don’t know what to do with the future of this story? Help? Should it be a screenplay, book, tv show? ?

Monday, January 16th, 2012

Question by sephiroth962: Don’t know what to do with the future of this story? Help? Should it be a screenplay, book, tv show? ?
This story has been like 2 years in the making up till now i’m actually gathering info. to develop the story it is the story of a kid named “AJ” (pronouced age idk if thats how you would pronounce it) he has a twin sister, a brother and a family friend as Aj grows up to his late 14 yrs of age he begins to question certain things eventually becoming a philosopher i’ll give him experiences that i myself have experienced as well as all my philosophical views, high school his wisdom increases slowly Aj begins to put the pharse “anything is possible” to the test what does Aj want to be u ask he’ll be emperor of this world. he knows that his task will not be easy and that the world can’t be a perfect place of harmony but he will try his best to keep the world stable enough to bring a sense of harmony, little does he know that he has powers. I wanna make this story as possible as the real world. setting will be our modern world, because this is a huge project of course they will be extra characters involved other than the 4 i just mentioned. i have gathered songs that helped me develop scenes for the story, i also manged to find a way on Microsoft Word to play audio clips of the characters, with music in the background, sound effects basically my own audiobook …the story will have twists loops… mmm thats i all its midnight so sry if i didn’t make certain things clear just e-mail me to clear things up b4 u comment and i’ll leave you with a quote from Aj
“power can build or destroy, love can make u or break u, shit happens for a reason or not at all, ppl change or not at all, some understand some don’t, (tsk) in my opinion everything is balanced nothing will outweigh the other and if so they try to outweigh one another 4 eternity” -Aj

Story idea and work on it seems interesting.
Can only think of one suggestion: put an ‘e’ after Aj (or Aaj?) unless you plan to write a ‘sounds-like’ after the first mention of the name.
As for what this ends out to be ‘real time’ that depends on how you ultimately see the finished product.
Most work shows itself at least by then to be screenplay, novel or TV show; sometimes all three though it can’t be marketed as all three at once.

Once you complete all revisions, it would be best to get an agent in one or all fields (some know all of them). Getting an agent, if you have yet to publish anything, will take time. Suggest you read the first section of the current issue of The Writer’s Market; study all aspects of it and you’ll see what is involved with any type of publication in any field.

If you don’t want to buy the book, you can copy relevant pages (quite a few) at a public library and/or study it there and make notes of what you need to know. The book is also online with all recent updates, but costs (very inexpensive) $ 3.99 a month to see it all. Take a look:

Modern world history hw help?

Question by : Modern world history hw help?
In the republic plato writes “until philosophers are kings, or the kings or princes of this world have the spirit and power of philosophy, and political greatness and wisdom meet in one , and those commoner natures who pursue either to the exclusion of the other are compelled to stand aside, cities will never have rest from ther evils, no, nor the human race.” Explain this qoute. (10 points)

Best answer:

Answer by Iris
Philosophy is a power of thought and thinking. What is philosophy? It comes from the derivatives to mean love of wisdom. Philosophers follow the concept of understanding the reality, the world view and to live a life in a just way.
————————————————————————————————————————————————-

I took the passage out of forstberg.edu, it explains better than I do.

“Until now crucial decisions concerning war, peace, and the welfare of society had always been left to corrupt or incompetent politicians, ignorant voters, over-ambitious generals, and other people unsuited to run a state. Bloodshed, hatred, waste of resources, and deplorable conditions had usually been the result. There is no chance for things to become better unless knowledge and reason are put in command—the best knowledge and the most competent reason that society can muster. Lovers of wisdom may not be eager to govern, as their main passions are more intellectual pursuits. But since they are the best trained and best informed minds, they must be obligated by law to run the state—as a sort of committee of technocrats. “Until philosophers are kings, or the kings and princes of this world have the spirit and power of philosophy, … cities will never have rest from their evils,” as Plato suggests in the Republic. please help, i have a brother: what’s wrong with him?

Saturday, December 17th, 2011

Question by Roby: please help, i have a brother: what’s wrong with him?
These are the circumstances: very very smart (as said by everybody who knows or met him); able to get to the point in half the time other people do; grades of 90/100% at school since he was 5 (he is 28); now at the 2nd year of his doctorate in management.

The problem: everything he starts, once arrived at 60% quits; he is studying for a test now, but is thinking to go to the close by college and take also some more classes that he says may help him to have a better understandin; his actual GPA at the doctorate is 3.8 (out of 4.0).
If he feels interested in something, he starts to practice it really hard, but then after few weeks leaves all. For example, he started fishing, he bought very expensive equipment, but after a month he gave up. The same with football, baseball and volleyball. Once, he decided to study philosophy: he bought several books of Greek and modern philosophers, and after reading all of them classified philosophy as a “circular wasting of time.”

what should i do
something that you want to know: when he was 16 run as representative in his high school and while nobody knew him he arrived first; at the age of 19 he was leading a junior school from bankruptcy to being the first in the school district; when he was 25 he won a national competition for young entrepreneurs, arriving first (most of the national universities were involved).

There is nothing wrong with him. He is clearly successful even though he takes on stuff without ever finishing it. I do the same thing, no big deal.
