Question by J V: 10 points to the Greatest Philosopher or Historian on here!?
In my speech and debate class were having an arguement on these questions.

How did the Renaissance impact our modern world in the areas of science, art, and philosophy? Have these been entirely beneficial? Why or why not?

I want your opinions. Examples to support your point(s) would be great.

In my history class, we need to make a poster of seven influential philosophers ranging from ancient to early modern times. Can anyone help me think of a catchy title for my project? Thanks!

Who is a philosopher that you trust?

Friday, January 13th, 2012

Question by Julian: Who is a philosopher that you trust?
Since philosophy is an analysis of life, then the study of philosophy depends not only on verifiable facts of reality but also an individual person’s account of life.

Do you think that modern society does not taken philosophy seriously because they have not found a trustworthy person they are willing to listen to?

Best answer:

Answer by Keith M
This is a good theory, but I hink it is more that society becomes anesthetized by entertainment (movies, television, computers, and music). So much so, in fact, that many don’t even know what the word philosophy means.

In addition, I think market conditions in a capatilist society undermine the value of “transcendental capital.”

Whose is your least favorite philosopher and why?

Question by BBdiddily: Whose is your least favorite philosopher and why?
Any time period. Ancient to Modern.

i love ALL philosophers!!!

ancient and modern!

philosophers are especially vital and important in todays economy!

why, where would we get fast food workers, produce pickers and people who clean vomit out of plugged toilets?

the great thing about ‘philosophers’ is that their perceived intelligence prevents them from aspiring and obtaining higher levels of professions. this means less competition for me and those who truly work hard to get somewhere in life and be a contributing human being.

there is a dark side to ‘philosophers’ though.

for every one philosopher asking if you would like fries with your meal there is one sucking up that welfare check. as a hard working tax payer, that is the unfortunate down side of philosophers. this is a necessary expense in order that our toilets are kept unplugged and vomit free and that there is fresh produce on the table. the good news? there will ALWAYS be an unending supply of self perceived (deceived) philosophy ‘scholars’ to replace those whom society has worked to death.
