Question by M O R P H E U S: Isn’t being an atheist really just choosing between philosophy and religion?
M. Dweller, maybe the question was asked as devil’s advocate, for perhaps this is the condition under which most decide…albeit a subconscious one.

Question by Belzetot: Why do so many people confuse religion with philosophy?
Philosophy is about asking questions and keeping an open mind. Something which religion obviously doesn’t approve.
Religion is based on dogmas, which are unquestionable truths. The very idea of a truth not being questioned is completely alien to any respecting philosopher.

Answer by Tennisguy
why are you confusing relgion with “closed mindedness?”
yes, many people in religious terms are not tolerant, but that doesn’t mean you can judge a whole religion of people based of the few you’ve met or seen
and sometimes religion is needed to bring into SOME aspects of philosophy

Question by Blessed Cheesemaker (cancelled): If a religion or philosophy accepts the suffering of others for the benefit of its followers is it moral?
At its heart Christianity is about the destruction of all those who don’t accept God, irregardless of the type of person they were, and paradise for all those who accept God, irregardless of the type of person they were.
If you accept jesus on your deathbed, you get a mansion, forgetting all the lives you might have destroyed as you lived you own.
So should Christianity really be classified as a moral religion or an immoral philosophy.

Question by Bob Nias: Why do some Christians think atheism is a religion or philosophy?
There is some philosophy surrounding atheism, but its arguing for atheism. Atheists live their live and believe whatever philosophy they want!
And believing in a philosophy is not a religion; religion involves believing in a god(or gods) that watch over us.
Atheism is just not believing in any gods, that doesn’t make it a religion. I don’t believe in the tooth fairy, does that count as a religion? No.

Question by Isu: What is the different between philosophy and religion?
Best answer:
Answer by Max
Religion credits a single omnipotent being with all of the unanswered questions.
Philosophy may eventually come to the same conclusion, but most philosophers are atheists, and come up with different solutions to the unanswered questions.

Question by delraytaco: Is Talbot’s MA in Philosophy and Religion available via Distance Learning?
Had a professor tell me it was available entirely via correspondence, but the website says at least 24 hours must be completed in residency. What does “in residency” mean? Is it more of a 3-week stay out there, or is it an entire semester sort of thing?
